Extending an Olive Branch

students learning to cook at olive branch resturauntThe Foods class had the chance to enhance their culinary skills while preparing a warm dinner for the individuals who dine at the Olive Branch in Hamilton.

Together we planned a meal that incorporated the nutrients, carbohydrates, and protein to assist with the nutritional intake of the guests. A hearty amount of Shepherd’s Pie was prepared to provide a full meal for each guest, plus take home packages for those who requested this, and for the volunteer staff.

Students also learned some of the skills for cake decorating to enhance the appearance of the cakes that they baked. An additional skill set was included with a trip to Nation’s in Jackson Square to complete a marketing challenge and the opportunity to buy some food for “Fearless Food Friday!’
