Meet the Conductors …
Brenda Uchimaru is known in music circles as “Uch” (pronounced Ooch).
She retired in 2012, after 37 years as an instrumental and vocal teacher. She has worked with the Hamilton and Waterloo Boards of Education as teacher, department head and consultant and most recently at Unionville High School in Markham, where she directed the concert, chamber and jazz choirs.
She taught the Vocal Additional Qualification courses for the University of Toronto for several years and is currently artistic director of 3 community choirs, the Cambridge Male Chorus, her own choir, Kokoro, the Japanese word for “heart”, and Toronto’s Bell’Arte Singers.
Although Uch has left daily classroom teaching, she is in demand as an adjudicator, workshop presenter, and clinician for music retreats and conferences.
