Student Exchange Opportunity
Hamilton District Christian High has a relationship with Hamelin Laie International School in Barcelona, Spain and is offering an exchange opportunity in May 2016.
Located minutes from the Mediterranean on the Spanish Riviera, Hamelin Laie is an established private school offering program for students from pre-school through senior high school. For the last two years, Hamilton District Christian High has partnered with Hamelin in full-semester student exchanges. Now, we are excited to introduce an amazing short-term exchange opportunity.
The exchange will allow HD students to be ambassadors for Canada and for our school, to gain global perspectives, to build relationships with students from around the world, and to explore language , history and culture.
Short-term Reciprocal Exchange
This May 2016, HDCH will host 10-15 students from Hamelin Laie. These students will partner with HDCH students, attend classes, and participate in group activities and excursions. The following spring (2017), Hamelin Laie will host HDCH students in the second part of the exchange. HD students will, similarly, attend classes, build relationships, and explore the culture and history of Barcelona and the Catalonia region. The intent is that relationship would be reciprocal (i.e. that the students we have in our homes would be the same students who host us).
The beauty of the exchange is that students have opportunities to explore cultures within the security of well-established relationships, within the structure of coordinated group activities, and under the supervision of qualified HDCH chaperones.
HDCH is now inviting applications from interested grade 9 and 10 students to participate in the exchange. Student applications must have parent/guardian endorsement.
- The students (and two staff members) from Barcelona will be arriving in mid-May (specific details are pending final flight bookings) for a ten-day visit.
- HDCH host families would be responsible for transportation to and from HD, for accommodation, and for providing breakfast and dinner daily (except on days when there are organized excursions). Our hosts in Barcelona would provide reciprocal hospitality.
- Food, accommodation and local transportation is included. Costs are limited to the price of a return flight, excursions, travel insurance, and pocket money. Students will require a valid passport. No additional visa is required for short stay.
- Two HD chaperones will be on the ground in Barcelona on the outbound leg of the exchange.
