60 Years of Christian Education
Here at Hamilton District Christian High, we love to celebrate — and our love of celebration is seen in the big and the small things.
As you may know, one of the big ways we celebrated this year was the 60th Anniversary Celebration held Saturday, May 27, 2017. What a day it was!
There were over 400 people at the school to celebrate our 60th anniversary during the day, and 200 joined us in the evening for the closing night dessert gala performance of Les Misérables.
The 60th Anniversary Celebration was filled with families, from babies to great-grandparents. The bouncy castles were well-used and the face painters didn’t stop. Alumna Meghan (Vanderkruk) Taylor’10 joined us with her and son, Koen, all the way from Houghton, New York. Meghan was delighted to share the day with her mom, sister, and friends.
“For me, roaming the halls of HD will always be accompanied by a spirit of thankfulness. It’s these classrooms, teachers, and staff that cultivated my love of learning and developed my passion for a holistic Christian education. The presentational skills Mr. Siebenga emphasized in Grade 10 history, the parallelism Mrs. B stressed in Grade 12 English, and the teamwork Mr. Cook established on the soccer field are just a few examples of how HD continues to daily influence my personal life and professional career. Sharing the 60th celebration with my husband and son was particularly special as well, thinking of the impact HD will have for generations to come.”
We had an Art Show with over seventy pieces of work by alumni artists on display, as well as current student art. We celebrated HDCH alumni authors and had a number of fantastic alumni and current student musicians play throughout the day.
Their music made the day feel even more festive!
We were also fortunate to have a number of HDCH graduates from the first ten years of the school gather for a mini-reunion. There was a lot of laughter and many memories shared. It was a joy to see a number of retired staff members out, and other distinguished guests, including Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger and local MP Filomena Tassi.
This day would not have been possible without the dedicated work and vision of the volunteer planning committee, many staff who went above and beyond, and our HDCH students. Thank you for celebrating HDCH with us! We are truly blessed by our strong community.
