Graduate Awards

Established in 2019, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate who participated in concert band (or like program), who was a generous friend to others, contributed positively to the community at HDCH, and demonstrated a deep appreciation for their Christian education.

It was established in memory of alumnus & past parent, Edward John Elzinga ('73) who passed away from cancer in 2015. He had a passionate desire to graduate from Christian High School. He attended public high school for Gr 9-11, and worked part time to save enough to pay his own HDCH tuition for HDCH for Gr. 12.

Established in March 2021, this scholarship was established in memory of Aaron Ferkranus ‘06 who passed away in 2015. It is awarded to a graduate who participated on an HDCH athletic team, who embraces diversity and who contributed positively to the community at HDCH.

Aaron enjoyed his time as a student at HDCH, particularly his participation on the basketball, football and volleyball teams. He would arrive at school early and stay late to practice. He was a fierce competitor in drills, practices and games, and listened to coaching, committed to improving his game. He worked so hard on his skills, that his coaches watched him improve to become one of the top players. He developed a sportsmanlike attitude and showed respect for his teammates and opponents. Aaron was a fun-loving, well-connected, highly-regarded student and an incredible teammate.

This award is presented to a student who exemplifies Christian leadership through curricular and extra-curricular involvement while demonstrating perseverance and determination in the pursuit of academic excellence.

It is offered in memory of HDCH graduate Sarah Han, class of 2003.

 

This award is to be granted to an HDCH graduate who has shown compassion through service and integrity, concern for justice and ethics with an extension of generosity and grace, with intent to enter a direct patient healthcare post-secondary program who may present a financial need. (Direct Patient Healthcare includes but is not limited to nurses, physicians, surgeons, and nurse practitioners.) Preference will be given to students who wish to enter the nursing profession and demonstrate a financial need.

This award is funded through LinkCharity by anonymous donors.

This scholarship is awarded annually to a grade 12 student, nominated by HDCH staff, who reflects Eric’s desire to advocate for others, to work behind the scenes to ensure positive outcomes, and to encourage and to help others in need.

Eric Kippers was an HDCH alumni from the class of 2010 who passed away in 2013.

This scholarship is awarded to a current graduate who will attend a Christian College. The student intends to study an academic discipline that focuses on meeting the needs of people, ideally in some form of Christian service. The recipient will have shown evidence of willingness for service and has good potential to achieve this goal. 

Cecil and Trudy sold the Glancaster Road property to HDCH in 1987 at an advantageous rate, with the understanding that they could live in their home at no charge as long as they wished. Sadly, Cecil passed away early in the construction period and did not see the building come to completion. Trudy lived alongside HDCH for perhaps a dozen years before she too passed away. This school was very significant to the family.

This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a graduate of Hamilton District Christian High School who has demonstrated exceptional Christian leadership, maturity, and vision during his/her stay at HDCH and who will continue his/her education at Redeemer University College.

This bursary is intended to provide funding for the post-secondary educational expenses of a young person who is compassionate, humble, and will graduate while facing a challenge, such as, but not limited to mental illness. Preference will be given to a candidate who is interested in pursuing creative arts in higher education.

The Bursary was established in memory of Gerri-Lynne Veldhuis, a kind and compassionate person who shunned the spotlight, had an active imagination, and a curious mind. She was very creative. She loved drawing, photography, and makeup, and studied to be a makeup artist. She was eager to help others and would do whatever she could for a friend. Gerri-Lynn graduated from HDCH in 2016. Gerri-Lynne also struggled with mental illness.

Reference Letter Application

Established in 2021, this scholarship is awarded annually to HDCH graduates who have shown exceptional effort, passion, humility, and discipline in completing their studies and who are enrolled in a post-secondary pathway of continued learning or skill development. They demonstrate a deep desire to live in the service of God, become a faithful presence in the community they serve and to live out their vocation in the workplace.

It was established in memory of John and Jessie Verduyn, whose active support of Christian Education inspired family and friends. The family's goal is to lend support to a deserving student who exemplifies the Verduyn family values of humble hard work, dedication to family, and commitment to faith.

The Barrel Restaurant/Tom Daikos French Scholarship was established to celebrate a Hamilton District Christian High graduate who has demonstrated both proficiency in and love for the French Language. 

This scholarship is to be awarded to an HDCH graduate, whose marks are among the highest in their class and who shows a passion for the French language and culture. The student may be planning to continue their French studies at a post-secondary institution. 

Student Awards

This bursary, consisting of both a tuition credit and an award, is annually given to a grade 11 student who is honest, trustworthy, and loving towards people in need. The recipient has demonstrated giftedness in the business program and has a clear understanding of Christian principles in relation to ethical business practices.

The Beusink family established the award in memory of John who passed away while a teacher at HDCH.

Established in 2008, these scholarships, are awarded each year for the previous academic year, for excellence and improvement in academics. Academic Excellence Scholarships are awarded to students with the highest level of achievement in Gr. 10 and Gr. 11, respectively. The Improvement Scholarships are awarded to students with the greatest improvement in academic performance from Gr. 9-10 and Gr. 10-11, respectively. The value of these awards will be applied toward the student’s tuition at HDCH. 

The Scholarships were established by Jacob Bottinga, in memory of Liz Williams who passed away while her son Ryan was a student at Hamilton District Christian High.

This award is for to students who desire to pursue and extend, Kenton’s people-oriented vision of hope and transformation. The award is intended to help defray the cost of mission and service opportunities.

Kenton passed away while still a student at HDCH. He was always ready with a warm welcome and a sincere greeting. He inspired others with his energy, his enthusiasm, his determination, and his genuine heart for service. Kenton was a loyal friend, a creative performer, and a passionate advocate for justice. He was moved and motivated by the devastation and loss as well as by the beauty and joy he observed while serving in Haiti

Graduate Academic Recognition

The student has completed all requirements for the HDCH diploma and has earned at least 100 academic points based on the best thirty credits. This achievement reflects outstanding academic performance at each grade level. The point system is as follows: 4 points (90-100%), 3 points (80-89%), 2 points (70-79%), 1 point (60-69%), 0 points (0-59%).

This graduate award is presented to the student in the graduating class who has the highest average mark in all Grade 11 and 12 courses. The Governor General of Canada authorizes our school to present this award.

This graduate award is presented to a graduating student for exemplary community contribution or outstanding achievement through volunteer activity.

This graduate award is presented to students who earn an 80% average in at least six Grade 12 courses.
