Final Word 2017

The Christian High Schools Book Club gathered together at Woodland Christian High School for our 2017 culminating event, The Final Word.

Woodland CHS, Durham CHS, London DCSS and Hamilton District Christian High Book Clubs enjoyed a day of fellowshipping among book clubbers, relishing in the animated unveiling of the winner of our favourite book club pick this year (Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese), competing in a rousing game of Book Club Jeopardy, dining on pulled pork and ice cream sundaes and, the highlight, meeting and listening to Ottawa-based, two-time Governor General’s Literary Award-winning author, Caroline Pignat.

Caroline has had three of her books on our Book Club lists over the years with Shooter taking the spotlight this year. Caroline is a high school Writer’s Craft teacher in Ottawa, a writer of religious studies curriculum for the separate school board and a highly engaging speaker.  Not only did she speak about her writing journey, but she also engaged students with a short writing workshop.

Book Club is a means of engaging students through the love of reading and providing a venue to develop discerning, critical thinkers while allowing us to showcase Canadian authors that may be unknown to many readers.  We look forward to finding our next 10 reads for next year.
